WELLINGTON Choral Society has received a massive pat on the back following its performance of Handel’s Messiah at St John’s Church in the town.

The church was at near capacity for a wonderful evening’s entertainment last month and the Mayor and Mayoress of Wellington, Cllr Gary James and his wife Bee, were thrilled to be in the audience.

The Mayor told members of Wellington Town Council that the evening had been a ‘spiritual extravaganza’.

“Even after 275 years Handel’s Messiah still captivates audiences, especially with the Hallelujah Chorus,” said Cllr James.

The concert was well supported by Wellington Sinfonia and soloists Daisy Walford, Juliet Curnow, Nicholas Hawker and Matthew Cann and all under the capable baton of Laurence Blyth.

“Everyone who took part in this wonderful event should be congratulated and the new staging at the church complemented the chorus’s ability to give full visual and vocal effect to the audience,” added the Mayor.
