Wellington Museum, housed in The Squirrel opposite Lloyds Bank in Fore Street, has opened for its 36th season.

Mayor of Wellington Cllr Gary James said he was pleased to perform the ceremony as the Wellington Local History & Museum Society, which runs the museum, plays a significant role in preserving the town’s heritage and making it accessible to residents and visitors.

He added that the town council appreciates the work of the all-volunteer run society and provides support when it can – for example, by helping to fund the museum’s new carpet, the first since it opened in 1983.

Pictured at the opening are the Mayor and Mayoress together with museum stewards and members of the committee: Carole Moore, Pat Dillon, Joan Parkinson, Lynda Russell-Cairns, Mayoress Bee James, society chairman Paddy Gray, Mayor Gary James, Jenny Vickery, Gill Croucher (cover for the deputy town clerk’s maternity leave) and Rowena Marrow.

Anyone who would like to be involved in the society, whether by stewarding, cataloguing, researching or any of its many other activities, is asked to contact the museum at 28 Fore St, Wellington, Somerset TA21 8AQ, phone 07971 242 904 or e-mail [email protected]

The Museum is open 10am-4pm Monday to Friday and 10am-1pm Saturday but is closed on bank holidays. Entry is free.
