YOUNG Megan Wingfield went the extra mile during October half-term raising £1,200 for sports equipment at Kingsmead School, Wiveliscombe.
The Year 9 student decided to run 100 miles over the holiday and raise money through sponsorship for the school’s PE Department.
Megan came up with the idea and planned her week meticulously to ensure she could achieve her goal. She used a mobile app and diary to track her progress, and produced sponsorship forms to collect her fundraising.
She started on Sunday, October 22, with a 12-mile run and progressed towards her target throughout the week, hitting 99 miles on Saturday, October 29. She completed her final mile at the Longrun Meadow Junior Parkrun in Taunton on Sunday, October 30, where she was joined by family, friends and fellow runners.
A school spokeswoman said: “This is an amazing achievement for Megan which shows true determination and perseverance.”
