Rachel was 41 when she died nearly two years ago. The Memorial Match was attended by her partner Phil, and her dad and stepmum, who travelled from the New Forest.
The match featured Wellesley Park Veterans against their counterparts from Wellington FC. It was a close run thing in the end, despite Wellington enjoying long periods of possession. Wellington won the game 2-1 with goals from John Norman and player-manager Shaun Richards. Wellesley Park’s goal came in the form of an equaliser from John Beattie.
Organiser Pete Wainwright would like to thank all the players and spectators who raised £250 and Wellesley Park Veterans FC who added £100 from club funds. He would also like to thank Wellington School, The Carly Press, who provided an enhanced photo of Rachel, and Steve Mayo who refereed the match.
