ANGER has erupted following the deferral of controversial plans for a block of apartments on the site of the former Wellington Medical Centre at Bulford.

The future of the semi-derelict building remained hanging in the balance this week as the developer and council officials wrangled over money.

The scheme, for the proposed demolition of the former medical centre and the development of 42 'later living' apartments, previously given unanimous backing by the town council, was recommended for refusal by planning officials on the grounds that the site was earmarked for 'vital' retail space.

But at a meeting of the borough council's planning committee on Wednesday a three-month deferral was agreed without a vote.
