A WELLINGTON woman accused of causing a massive traffic jam on the M5 is also facing an allegation of dangerous driving, magistrates were told.

Twenty-five year old Abigail June Wyatt, of Trinity Close, appeared before Taunton Deane and West Somerset Magistrates on Monday accused of causing a public nuisance on August 25 by climbing railings on the Monument Road overbridge, between junctions 26 and 27, and threatening to jump.

The charge said she caused full closure of both motorway carriageways for two and a half hours ‘causing the delaying and obstruction of thousands of motorists, using valuable police resources and other agencies in the process’.

Magistrates heard Wyatt, who walked into court with the aid of a stick, is due to see a psychiatrist later this month.

She was remanded on unconditional bail to appear at the Crown Court on October 3 and at the magistrates’ court on October 6.
