LONG-CHERISHED hopes of a railway station opening once again at Wellington could be re-ignited.

Next year sees the 50th anniversary of the much-mourned closure of Wellington Station, announced as part of Dr Beeching's cuts in 1963 and axed in 1964.

Now talks are to take place between council officials aimed at re-establishing local railway services between Exeter and Taunton, potentially paving the way for the reintroduction of a local railway service and reopening railway stations in Cullompton and Wellington, slashing traffic congestion and kick-starting the local economy.
