Nick Girone-Maddocks, one of the founder members of local bluegrass band Thunderbridge, is giving a special concert at The Beambridge Inn, Wellington.

It is on Friday, November 26 at 7.30pm and features acoustic and electric sets.

During lockdown Nick recorded a new album, entitled ’British Southwestern’, and now gigs are happening again he is looking forward to getting back out performing.

The new band is a trio, consisting of Nick, taking all the guitar duties, as well as the vocals, his former band mate Jules Bushell and Glen Davey.

Nick said: "The album is a lot more ’electric’ than anything Thunderbridge ever did, but it’s still pretty chilled, and a good dose of Americana, country and blues, and the new band is getting the songs across really well.

"We’ve got Glen Davey on the drums, who I have played with before and has a great groove. Jules was the obvious ’go to’ for a bass player, and he’s playing both double and electric bass."

Nick’s new CD comprises 11 self-penned songs spanning a variety of subject matter and styles. It was recorded during 2020 and also features the legendary guitarist Albert Lee on one track.

"I’ve loved Albert’s playing since I was a kid," said Nick.

"When a particular song on the CD needed a great guitar solo, I emailed Albert in the States and asked if he’d do it.

"He said ’yes’ and, with the wonders of modern technology, we had a great track with him playing on it - a bucket-list moment for sure. Now all I have to do is re-create the solo for the concerts!"

The concert promises to be a relaxed and intimate affair. For Covid safety measures, ticket numbers are being monitored carefully to avoid overcrowding.

Tickets are £10 and can be bought from the venue, or from Gibbins Richards Estate Agents in Wellington High Street.
