ANGRY traders in Wellington who applied to have their business rates cut after road works disrupted their trade have been told: 'No Way'.

A number of retailers have received official letters refusing reductions in rateable values because they are too far from the road works to be affected, and, in at least one case, an application for a rebate was made too late.

Sue Brummitt of Wellington Boots, Lancer Court, spoke up for local retailers who had failed in their bid.

Mrs Brummitt, who recently called on county council bosses to stump up the cash to pay for a campaign to promote the town, said: "Wellington's traders have taken a battering.

"I don't think people realise just how badly the roadworks have hit local shops in the town."
