A fire crew rescued an elderly woman in Wellington after her leg became trapped in a sun lounger on Sunday afternoon.

Firefighters were called to the incident at about 2.45pm at Barn Meads Road in Wellington.

They had to use cutters and bolt croppers to release the woman from the frame of the lounger. She was given oxygen and the ambulance service was called to administer treatment.

The weather in Wellington on Sunday reached 22 C – a record for the time of year.
