WIDOWER John Winter is planning to walk on the wings of a plane – and help raise thousands of pounds for St Margaret’s Somerset Hospice.
His wife Jenny, of West Somerset, took part in numerous activities to raise money for charity after being diagnosed with cancer.
She began to plan fundraising activities for St Margaret’s last year when she was being cared for in the Inpatient Unit in Taunton to say thank you.
A wing walk was top of her list but she died in the hospice last September, while she was still in the planning stages.
John is now planning a wing walking challenge on May 25, along with friends, St Margaret’s staff and staff from Red Berry Recruitment.
Wing walker Rowena Jones said: “Jenny’s ambition, courage and generosity was an inspiration and is something I believe will always live on in her legacy for years to come – it is the main reason I have stepped up to this challenge to support St Margaret’s Hospice as one of Jenny’s Angels.
“Jenny signed me up to this nuts idea of being strapped to the top of a plane when I popped in for tea last year and ‘no’ was not an option. While she’s escaped being strapped to the plane I know she will be flying up there with us.
“The number of people that have put themselves forward for the wing walking challenge in honour of Jenny shows a snippet of how many people’s hearts she has touched and how greatly admired she is.”
John said: “Jenny would have been over the moon to know people were doing this in her memory.”
‘Jenny’s Angels’ are hoping to raise £11,600 which will pay for a day of care in both St Margaret’s Taunton and Yeovil Inpatient Units.
