Transition Town Wellington (TTW) and Wellington Mills CIC are hosting an open day about future plans for Fox’s Field at Tone Dale House on Thursday (August 12).
The 8.5 acre site, next to Tonedale Mill, was acquired by Somerset West and Taunton in November 2019 to keep as an open, green space accessible to the everyone.
TTW and the CIC have teamed up to explore ideas about how the field can be managed to enhance biodiversity and for a variety of community uses. Two public consultations have been held, with responses from almost 350 people from all walks of life.
The Transition Town design team will present the results of the consultations and share their thinking so far about possible designs. Display boards and information will be on show in a large open marquee in the gardens of Tone Dale House, and members of the team will be on hand to discuss and share ideas.
There will be a special display about forest gardens and the ecological benefits of this way of growing useful and edible crops.
The team would like to thank the Big House Co, and Transition Network: Bounce Forward/National Lottery Community Fund for their support.
The open day runs from 3.30pm to 7.30pm. Gates close at 8pm.
The entrance to Tone Dale House is the first turning left immediately after the metalled railway bridge next to Swallowfield.
Parking is very limited, so people are encouraged to walk or cycle if possible. To ensure that they can park close to the main entrance, wheelchair users and those who have mobility issues can contact [email protected] in advance.
For others, turn off the Milverton Road down Millstream Gardens and take the first left into the car park at the back of the One Stop Shop, from where the small pedestrian access gate into the main driveway will be open.
