AN ambitious £250,000 fund-raising campaign is being launched by a Wellington woman to support the national Children’s Air Ambulance.

Pam Fleming, who lives in Burrough Way, wants to raise the money to pay for a new children’s incubator for one the air ambulance’s helicopters.

She kick-started the appeal with a Michaelmas fair held in Wellington Football Club.

Pam, who works as a cleaner, hopes to reach her fund-raising target during 2023 and is already organising a Christmas event at Wellington Rugby Club on December 11, and a major event for next summer.

She took up the charity’s cause after one of her skittles team experienced an emergency where her young child urgently had to be taken to hospital in Plymouth and the Children’s Air Ambulance was called because of its specialised equipment.

Pam said: “They are raising money for two incubators and so I said I would pledge to raise enough for one of them, which is £250,000.

“The incubators are desperately needed for the continuous care of our most precious treasures, our children.

“It always costs £1,000 more to send the Children’s Air Ambulance than it does for a normal air ambulance because of the extra skills they need, and each flight costs them £3,500, so they need all the help they can get.

“I know it is hard at the moment with the financial climate everybody is in and it will be difficult, but I will keep going until I have got there.”
