CHILDREN in Wellington and Rockwell Green are benefiting from specialist play equipment installed at Wellington Recreation Ground.
The equipment is fully accessible and allows children with additional needs to play with their friends and family at the popular venue. A new accessible swing and roundabout have been installed as part of Somerset West and Taunton Council’s (SWT) upgrade of play equipment across the town.
Andrew Govier, county councillor for Wellington and Rockwell Green has welcomed the new equipment.
“I am delighted this equipment has been installed,” he said. “I was contacted by a

“I took the matter up with SWT and they were very helpful. They agreed that as part
of their plans to upgrade play facilities across the district they would install this
equipment. The families were delighted with the new facilities and the children
are already having great fun.”
Catherine Govier, who is standing in the local elections and is hoping to join her
dad on Somerset and Wellington Town councils, said: “I am really pleased the
council has installed this equipment. It is a real shame if children miss out on learning
through play and it is crucial that children with additional needs are given equal
access to such opportunities during their development.
“With the new unitary council on the way, it is going to be important that local
communities have a say in what local facilities and services are available for children
and young people.”
