PENSIONER Maureen Heald-Gledhill, of Blackmoor Road, Wellington, has raised hundreds of pounds for the Multiple Sclerosis Trust in a parachute jump.

Maureen, 72, did the jump from 15,000 feet at Dunkeswell Airfield at the fourth try after a broken wrist, heavy rain and strong winds prevented previous attempts.

Maureen said: “It is the scariest thing I have done in my life – but it is like an adrenaline drug and I may do it again.

“I was free-falling for the first 10,000ft at 120mph – although it felt faster – and my tandem parachute partner Ryan was pointing out Chesil Beach and Swansea. I could see everything, it was beautiful.

“The parachute opened at 5,000ft and I was worried about landing but that was easy. I can’t believe I actually did the jump but would recommend everyone does one.”

Maureen, who was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis four decades ago, added: “The MS Trust is a leading independent UK charity for people with MS, their families and friends, and for all health and social care professionals who work with them. It provides information, professional education and funds practical research.”

Maureen has so far raised £1,005 – anyone who would like to add to that total can contact her at 13 Blackmoor Road, Wellington TA21 8ED, on 01823 662917 or by email at [email protected]
