The life of one of the pioneers of anthropology, Sir Edward Burnett Tylor, is the subject of a talk at Wellington School next week.

Sir Edward was born in London and came to Wellington when he married Anna Rebecca Fox in 1858 – they lived in Linden House.

His chief work, ‘Primitive Culture’, based on his expeditions to Central America – and Mexico in particular – was published in 1871. He was appointed the world’s first professor of anthropology at Oxford in 1896.

John Young will give the talk in aid of Wellington Local History & Museum Society at the Alan Rogers Centre on Thursday, April 27, at 7.30pm.

Entry is £3 or £2 for society members – single membership costs £5 (£4 concessions).
