PLANS have been submitted to develop the upstairs of the empty Shauls Bakery premises in Wellington.
Shauls Properties Ltd has applied to Somerset West and Taunton Council for the go-ahead for the change of use and conversion of the first, second and third floors of the property – which sits on the corner of High Street and South Street – into two flats.
The proposals also include alterations to the ground floor and formation of an entrance on the High Street side of the property.
The Mayor of Wellington, Cllr Janet Lloyd, said: “As the district councillor for this area, I have received notice that a planning application has been lodged with the district council’s planning department to convert the upper floors into flats.
“The building is not only in the conservation area but is also listed. I presume the application will come to Wellington Town Council’s planning committee in time for our February planning meeting.”
Shauls Bakery has remained closed since the first national lockdown was introduced last year because of the Covid-19 pandemic with the company falling into administration.
