A CALL has been made for Somerset County Council to think about building a permanent home for pre-school children at a Wellington school.

The authority has applied to Taunton Deane Borough Council for planning permission to keep the existing flat-roof mobile unit at Wellesley Park Primary School in Homefield for another ten years.

The ‘temporary’ building was first given planning permission in 2006 and was renewed in 2013 – and so the county council wants to renew it once again.

But members of Wellington Town Council’s planning committee – although in support of the application when they met on Tuesday (April 3) – did wonder how long a ‘temporary’ classroom unit could be called ‘temporary’ considering it had already been there for 12 years.

“Perhaps Somerset County Council would like to look at providing a permanent building for the pre-school rather than just keep renewing permission for a temporary building,” asked Cllr John Thorne.

A final decision on the application will be made by Taunton Deane Borough Council.
