PUBLIC notices cover a range of applications, ranging from licensing applications for liqueur or entertainment to planning applications, roadworks and other works.

Their intention is to inform communities of the latest plans in their area and such applications are considered for approval or refusal by local authorities.

Here are some of the latest applications submitted to Somerset Council in Wellington:

A planning application has been entered for the erection of an agricultural building for livestock and storage including the installation of roof-mounted solar panels. The applicants Mr and Mrs Corp are also seeking to make improvements to the current field access including the formation of a new access track to the land, the agricultural holding and the paddock on land adjoining Burts Farm at Ford Street in Wellington.

The application states the barn measuring 18m x 9m will have metal roofing sheets with rooflights and the elevations will be constructed from concrete panels and blockwork with trapezoidal sheet cladding.

The access track is positioned away from the Grade II listed Burts House and has been designed to sit beneath an existing mature field boundary hedge to minimise impact. No objection was received from the Highway Authority as long as a proposed new track is properly surfaced with appropriate drainage for at least the first six metres of its length.

Four native trees will be planted on the site that will form part of the Biodiversity Net Gain requirements. Comments to the plan by the landscaping officer stated however: “I recommend that further landscape mitigation measures are introduced to assist in integrating the proposed building into the landscape setting, and to reduce any harm in respect of the setting of the Grade II Burts House.”

The planting of an informal group of native trees and shrubs to the south of the new building is suggested for the development to follow design guidance for a ‘zero carbon, healthy, resilient and distinctive environment’ as set out in the Supplementary Planning Document of 2021 for new agricultural buildings with a choice of colours and materials to mitigate the impact of the building on its environment. A public right of way on the east boundary of the site will be retained and not impacted by the proposal.

The application opened to consultation until May 1 with no comments received at the time of going to press. Wellington Without Parish Council discussed the application and registered their approval with the local authority on March 9.
