THE 200th anniversary of the laying of the foundation stone for Wellington Monument will be celebrated this autumn.

The event in the late afternoon and early evening of Saturday, October 21, will include a guided walk retracing the procession route taken by people from Wellington to the monument site in 1817. A celebration and performance will be held at the monument itself.

It is hoped people in Wellington will participate and support the event in different ways – more details will be revealed at a later date.
