TOWN hall officials have dismissed claims that play equipment at the new Howard Road play area in Wellington is dangerous.

The rebuttal comes after the WWN exclusively revealed that three children were hurt following accidents.

A spokesman said the play area, which opened on March 27, underwent rigorous inspection by an independent Play Inspector before opening.

She said: "Play equipment will be safe to use as long as it is used properly."
