POLICE are keen to see more Community Speed Watch groups set up in the Wellington area in a bid to put the brakes on motorists.

Wellington among three fire crews working to free horse trapped in farm slurry pitSgt Dan Bishop told Wellington Town Council at their latest monthly meeting that the area already has 42 schemes but only solely devoted to one street.
"We are looking to get more going in areas where there are problems," he told councillors. "The Community Speed Watch groups do help to identify where there are real problems which we could then look to bring further speed enforcement."
Volunteer Community Speed Watch group members receive full training in the use of speed detection equipment and details of vehicles caught breaking the law are passed to the police who then send an advisory letter to the offending driver.
Stronger action is taken against repeat offenders.
