A MAN is has been injured in an alleged stabbing in Wellington in the early hours of Monday (May 29).
The incident happened on Roly Poly Green, approximately 400 yards from Wellington Police Station, in Victoria Street.
This morning the square-shape communal green area remained closed to the public with a police cordon around the entire perimeter, which also runs along Alexandra Road and Longfo0rth Road.
Police forensic officers were at the scene, and a number of police constables, police community support officers (PCSOs), cars, and other vehicles.
Officers on duty at the green were not volunteering information to the public.
The stabbing was said to have happened at about 2am near a wooden picnic table on the green.
One neighbour told the Wellington Weekly: “There was an altercation and vodka bottles all over the table and the police taped it off at about 4 am this morning.
“I did not actually see anything happening but around here we said as soon as the council put that picnic table there we would have trouble with people gathering. They are often there late in the night and early hours.”
