POLICE in Wellington are appealing for volunteers to help make roads safer in the town by taking part in Community Speedwatch schemes.

Volunteers would only need to give up an hour or two a month and training and equipment would be supplied at no cost. The town currently has no Community SpeedWatch.

PCSO Simon Bramley, from Wellington police station, said: “Community SpeedWatch gives local people the ability to actively get involved in road safety and can be set up in areas governed by either a 20-, 30- or 40mph speed limits.

“Community SpeedWatch is a partnership between the community, the Police and local authorities, and consists of local residents who are willing to volunteer a small amount of time each week to monitor speeds with speed detection equipment.”
