NEW anti-pigeon spiking has been installed in the Cornhill in Wellington to deter the feathered friends from congregating there and fouling.

Wellington Town Council had been writing to the Diocese of Rochester, the owners of the TUI building in Fore Street, when previous anti-pigeon measures had been removed and had led to the area looking untidy.

But town clerk Kathryn Hemensley was delighted to tell councillors on Monday (July 1) that – despite not hearing back from the agents of the Diocese of Rochester or JD Wetherspoon, which runs the Iron Duke pub next door to the TUI – the new measures had been installed.

“The anti-pigeon structures have been put in place and an immediate improvement has been seen,” she said. “This is excellent news and hopefully will help improve the overall appearance of this area.
