WELLINGTON Carnival is set for a fresh new chapter in 2026, with organisers announcing a new date, larger floats and changes to the committee.
The annual event, which is traditionally held in late September, is proposed to go ahead on Saturday, October 24, at 7 pm.
Wellington Carnival is part of the South Somerset Federation of Carnivals and is looking to attract bigger and more elaborate floats by moving the date later in the season.
In previous years, some large entries were unable to take part as Wellington is traditionally the first carnival in the federation’s calendar, meaning floats were not ready in time.
Paul Goodyer, chairman and director of Wellington Carnival, said: “We are really excited to bring a different feel to the 2026 carnival with bigger floats and a new date.”
“The carnival will be rejuvenated.”
Alongside the date change, the carnival committee has welcomed new members following a meeting held on December 15 at Wellington Rugby Club.
Tina Allen-Skinner was appointed vice chair and Atlanta Allen-Skinner has taken on the role of treasurer.
Paul continued: “The carnival is an integral part of the town and it is great that we had lots of people willing to volunteer their time to keep this tradition going. With previous members on the committee and some fresh new blood, the event will be bigger and better than ever.”
Wellington Carnival are still looking for volunteers to help with fundraising.
Paul described the volunteer roles available as “flexible” and “accessible to all”.
He continued: “We are not asking volunteers to attend a meeting every month, it is the smaller jobs that need doing every so often. Volunteering for the carnival is not a daunting commitment.”
