THE National Trust Wellington Monument team has set up in the Pop-Up Shop in Fore Street in Wellington.
The team are using the shop to promote the project to repair Wellington Monument and announce a new volunteering opportunity.
Passers-by can visit the shop opposite Wellington Museum to find out about the progress of the project and how they can get involved.
Emma Jones, community fundraising and engagement officer for Wellington Monument, said: “It is wonderful to be situated in the centre of the community.
“I have spoken to so many passionate people during my first day in the shop. It is great to hear the enthusiasm from locals and their willingness to be involved.”
Volunteers will be needed to provide tours of the scaffolding, during the building phase, which will take about 18 months.
They will be able to help design the tour as well as get the exclusive opportunity to be a guardian of the building phase. The role will be a rare chance to work on a unique structure, as well as give the chance to enthuse visitors.
Monumental Sunflower raffle tickets, which will benefit the restoration project and St Margaret’s Somerset Hospice are also on sale. The draw is on January 20.
Anyone who would like to get involved should contact the team at [email protected]
The National Trust is in the Pop-Up shop daily until next Wednesday (January 15) then again from the beginning of February.
