Remembrance Tide in Wellington begins this weekend with displays of knitted poppies put up around town.

Wellington & District WI members, with help from volunteers in and around Wellington, have knitted and crocheted thousands of poppies.

The poppies will be arranged in and around the Remembrance Garden and around the chains of the war memorial, in Monmouth Gardens in North Street, around the railings in the town centre and at the entrance to Lancer Court.

These displays will be officially recognised and appreciated by members of the Wellington branch of the Royal British Legion, the Wellington branch standard, and Wellington town Mayor and local councillors in Wellington Park on Friday (November 1) at noon, and in Monmouth Gardens and Lancer Court at noon on Saturday (November 2).

Wellington’s Field of Remembrance will be laid out at Wellington Baptist Church and dedicated in a service led by Rev Sam Griffiths at noon on Sunday (November 3).
