POST Office staff with help from Wellington firefighters have been getting on their bikes to raise money for town postman Kieran Mackenzie.

A collection at a static bike ride outside the sorting office in High Street on Saturday helped coin in the cash for Kieran, 25, who has cancer.

He is being cared for at Southmead Hospital in Bristol and the £8,500 so far raised through a gofundme website page and £1,200 collected by posties on delivery rounds will enable him to come home and be closer to friends and family.

The money will buy items like an electric wheelchair and a winch, said delivery office manager Oliver Foster. “Everyone has been extremely generous,” added Oliver.

He said post office worker Wendy Lowe had organised the static cycle event.
