AN ADULT learning organisation based in Wellington has won a partial victory in a bid to halt cuts to its funding programme.

Somerset Skills and Learning (SS&L) was forced to postpone a number of classes after its funding was cut from about £3 million to just £110,000 last month.

But after hard campaigning by residents, Somerset MPs and Somerset Labour Party, SS&L is to receive nearly £2.5 million – about 75 per cent of its previous total.

Classes are going ahead this term and a spokesman for SS&L said: “We’ve been granted transitional funding to start running our community and leisure courses again this year.”
