FORMER Court Fields School, Wellington, student Dan Marrow last appeared in the pages of the WWN when he was caught up in the earthquake in Christchurch, New Zealand, in 2011.

Dan set out travelling after graduating and ended up settling in New Zealand with his Kiwi wife. He had just got off a bus with his son Rama when the earthquake struck and they were forced to leave the city after their house was badly damaged.

Rama is now 12 and is starring in a film called ‘Northspur’. The plot centres on a peace-loving man in a violent, post-apocalyptic world who is forced to find life-saving drugs for his wife – but to get them he must first help an old man defend his cabin against nefarious forces.

Rama plays an orphan and loved the role, and his mother is a ‘Dark Rider’. Dan and Rama’s mum took it in turns to chaperone him at the filming location, near Marlborough in South Island.

Dan is now a park ranger for Auckland City Council and runs volunteer groups preserving native bush and undertaking new planting.

He has also appeared in a Maori television series about learning the native language, which is now useful to him in his job when he goes to visit Maori leaders to discuss work on tribal lands.

Rama’s proud grandparents are Rosemary and Chris Marrow, of Courtland Road, Wellington – they look forward to seeing ‘Northspur’ when it is released towards the end of the year.
