The Chancellor of the Exchequer announced £5 million of development funding for rail stations in Wellington and Cullompton in his Spending Review today.

The Devon and Somerset Metro Rail Group, co-chaired by Taunton Deane MP Rebecca Pow and Tiverton and Honiton MP Neil Parish, has been working to push forward plans for the stations, and the funding announcement follows meetings they held with the Chancellor Rishi Sunak and Treasury officials in recent weeks.

It is hoped the investment will help reconnect local communities and support regional growth – and is part of a £500 million Government commitment to restore transport links lost in the Beeching Cuts of the 1960s.
