THE grandstand at Wiveliscombe War Memorial Recreation Ground is set to be repaired thanks to a legacy worth tens of thousands of pounds.

Storm Chandra to bring further flooding and disruption to South WestEileen Mary Gardner, of Honiton, left £96,000 in her will to maintain the recreation ground. She left the money in memory of her father William Collard, a former draper and boot seller based in premises in High Street, Wiveliscombe, most recently occupied by Wilkies.
Recreation ground trustees have now asked the management committee to get quotes from builders for the grandstand work. The trustees and the management committee will also be looking at how the recreation ground can be developed for the 21st Century as it approaches its centenary in 2020.
