A 23-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of a public offence disorder following a ‘brawl’ at The Iron Duke in Wellington.
Ashley Hodgson, of Priory Bridge Road, Taunton, is set to appear in court on February 20 charged with using threatening, abusive or insulting words, or behaviour causing fear of or provoking violence.
Police were called to the Wetherspoon pub on the corner of Fore Street and North Street at about 9pm on Saturday, January 20, to reports of a disorder.
A spokesman for J D Wetherspoon described the actions of those involved as ‘unforgivable’ and apologised to its customers. He said: “At approximately 8.45pm a brawl erupted in the pub.
“Door staff and staff at the pub tried to stop the incident, and when it was calming down, another brawl started.
“A member of staff was punched. The actions of those involved are unforgivable.
“The pub has an excellent reputation and staff work hard to ensure the pub is a fun and safe place to visit. CCTV has been handed over to the police and those spotted on CCTV will be barred and their details given to Pubwatch.
“We apologise to our loyal customers who had to witness this in the pub.”
