THE Year 6 group at Beech Grove Primary School, Wellington, who attended the Somerset Children’s Parliament gave their presentation about saving Wellington Monument to town councillors at their April meeting.

The group were pleased and surprised to see Jenny Weston from the National Trust accompanied by her boss Helen Sharpe at the meeting, and parents and local residents also attended. Jenny had given the group support in preparing their presentation and wanted to back them in their efforts to raise awareness.

Everyone at the meeting was impressed with the children’s passion for the project and their singing.

Wellington mayor Bob Bowrah said: “The presentation was excellent with rhymes and song included. The pupils were a credit to the school and to Sue Keates [community, parental engagement and extended schools leader].”
