WEST Buckland Primary School held a commemoration service in the village church to mark the centenary of the end of the First World War.

In period costume, the children each presented a pebble painted with a poppy at the altar and performed poems written by John McCrae, Jessie Pope and Philip Larkin before observing two minutes silence. Roy Perrett played the Last Post and Reveille.

“We were extremely proud of all the children,” said head teacher Helen MacGregor. “They showed great respect for the occasion and for all those who served in this terrible war. It was wonderful too, to be able to welcome so many members of the wider community to share this occasion with us.”
