The team of Wellington Ambassadors at Beech Grove Primary School were delighted to visit Wellington Monument alongside the current Duke of Wellington and town dignitaries 200 years after the first Duke.

The pupils introduced themselves to his Grace and talked about the ways the school has supported the restoration project alongside the National Trust.

A spokesperson for the school said: “Being involved in an historic event created many emotions, from nerves to pride.

“The girls were fascinated by his family knowledge and surprised to learn that the first Duke had been Prime minister twice.

“Speaking to staff on the return journey they thought the Duke should come to school and share his family history!”
