A relay pilgrimage by Quakers drawing attention to the urgency of addreassing climate change will pass through Wellington on Friday (September 17) – and people of all faiths or none are welcome to join them.
Quakers in several areas are organising the relay pilgrimage between their meeting houses in preparation for the International Climate Conference – Cop26 – taking place in Glasgow in November.
The recent report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) makes it clear that urgent action must be taken to reduce the effects of global heating.
Quakers are calling for this to be done in a way that is just and fair, including supporting the poorer countries which will feel the worst effects.
The Climate Coalition has designated the week from September 18-26 as Big Green Week.
Those taking part in the relay aim to travel by any means other than individual motorised transport - walking, cycling or by public transport – from Spiceland (Uffculme) to Wellington to Taunton on Friday (September 17) and on to Bridgwater and Burnham-on-Sea the following afternoon. On the Friday evening, they are meeting MP for Taunton Deane Rebecca Pow.
