A PROPOSAL to rename a main road in Wellington as a tribute to the late Queen Elizabeth II has been fully supported by local councillors.

Members of Wellington Town Council met on Monday (March6) for their full monthly meeting and supported a proposal to rename the B3187 Taunton Road - that runs from the Chelston Roundabout to the Priory junction -as Queen Elizabeth Way in memory of the monarch who died in September 2022after 70 years on the throne.

The initial suggestion had been made by the council’s policy and resources committee on February 20.

Town clerk Dave Farrow said they would proceed with the initiative once guidance had been published by the Cabinet Office about memorialising requests.
