WELLINGTON’S Spring Fayre welcomed almost 3,000 people to the town park over the bank holiday weekend.

With more than 70 stalls, the fayre offered visitors the chance to enjoy splat the rat with Wellington Monument Rotary Club, the popular tombola, and performances from the Boostrap Border Morris throughout the day on Sunday, May 4.

Representatives from Wellington Town Council asked locals to assess how “good” they thought the town was, and the Wellington Museum advertised their collection of artefacts, with a number of items on display.

Well-known town groups including the Wellington Majorettes and the Somerset Army Cadets as well as fayre organisers, Friends of Wellington Park, also had stands inviting locals to find out more about their work or to support a cause.

There were also a range of food trucks, and craft stalls and a licensed bar alongside the fayre’s annual dog show hosted by W.A.G.

Mayor of Wellington Cllr Janet Lloyd said: “Many congratulations to Roger, Sandra and the Team at Friends of Wellington Park for the very successful Spring Fayre held on Sunday.

“I can appreciate how much work and planning over many months went into the organisation of the day. Local organisations were able to showcase what they do for the Wellington Community, and it gave the businesses the chance to show us their offerings. The diverse entertainment was great and varied too.

“Many thanks for a lovely day and we all look forward to their first concert.”

A spokesperson for Friends of Wellington Park said: “What a fantastic Spring Fayre in Wellington Park.

“The event was opened by our local MP Gideon Amos MBE supported by our Mayor, councillor Janet Lloyd, after being led through the park by Wellington Majorettes and the Wellington folk and Custom society.

“We estimate getting close to 3,000. Thank you everyone!”
