In response to the article ‘Empty Shelves Not All Shoppers’ Fault’ (WWN, March 25), as a mother whose son works in a local supermarket I totally disagree with the comments Cllr Johne Thorne made.

Does he honestly think supermarket managers have stood by and watched their ‘tills jingle’ as he puts it rather than be concerned for their customers?

Yes, they may have been a little slow to react, but we are in an unprecedented situation which no one could have foreseen, other than perhaps the greedy, inconsiderate stockpilers who are the real reason the shelves emptied so quickly.

These are probably the same people who have been verbally abusing the hard-working staff in all our local supermarkets.

We should all be very grateful to those retail workers, their managers, the home delivery drivers and lorry drivers delivering the stock.
