The Wellington Role Playing Cub are meeting weekly to embark on fantastical quests.
Hobbyists young and old are coming together to play an assortment of board games that involve assuming the role of wizards, knights and barbarians.
Kev Brennan, who runs the group, said: "I moved to Wellington three years ago just as the Covid pandemic was beginning. The subsequent cessation of regular life due to the national restrictions meant that engagement with the local community was severely curtailed and difficult for two years.
"With all restrictions finally lifted I looked to ease myself back into my normal routine living and sought out to resume one of my main joys and hobbies, tabletop roleplaying.
"Much to my surprise it turned out that there are a lot of people in Wellington who share my interest in Role Playing Games. I was asked what tabletop Role Playing Games actually were a lot. The best description, I think, is that it’s like an interactive boardgame with amateur dramatics, props and puzzle solving all thrown in.
"It’s played on a large table, typically by a group of five to six players and is led by a gamemaster, whose job it is to referee the group’s actions. Players are usually working as a team to win the game.
"The Wellington RPG Club is now in its seventh week and has been steadily growing. On average we have been gaining two to four players a week and are looking to maintain that trend in the coming weeks.
Our members range across ages and gender, with some players being young and complete novices to the hobby, while others have played the very first edition of Dungeons and Dragons back in 1977! We’re a friendly bunch and everyone is welcome to drop by to see if roleplaying is for them.”
The club meets every Wednesday at 6.15pm at the Quaker Meeting House on the High Street. Admittance is free to begin with and £2.50 thereafter, with everyone over the age of 16 being welcome to attend.
