WELLINGTON could face more traffic congestion following a proposal to ratchet up house building at Cades Farm on the western edge of the town at Taunton Road.

And the development proposals could put plans for a northern relief road to ease traffic misery in the town centre under threat.

Wellington east councillors Ross Henley and Peter Critchard are to attend tonight's meeting of Taunton Deane Borough Council's community scrutiny panel to speak out against proposed plans to allocate an extra 300 houses at Cades Farm following the installation of a new Conservative administration at the Deane council.

Cllr Henley told the WWN: "Building 300 extra houses at Cades Farm on top of what is already allocated is a bad move which could lead to even more traffic congestion in and around Wellington and could also destroy yet more green fields.

He added: "Increasing numbers of houses at Cades Farm could leave proposed development at Longforth Farm in doubt, doing nothing for our campaign for a northern relief road."
