In the lead up to Remembrance Day, a class of pupils from Rockwell Green C of E Primary School, along with their teacher and the school’s head teacher, Mike Berrisford, visited the war graves at Wellington Cemetery.

Wellington Mayor Cllr Mark Lithgow and Deputy Mayor Cllr Vivienne Stock-Williams helped the children at some of the graves – it was the first time since the Covid-19 pandemic that pupils have been able to lay posies.

The Mayor was accompanied by officers of the town branch of the Royal British Legion with the procession to and from school headed by the RBL Wellington branch standard carried by standard bearer and chairman Bob Trickey.

The Mayor read the exhortation and the standard was dipped, and Mr Berrisford shared a prayer.

Pupils visit the cemetery every month apart from August and this month also laid a cross of remembrance while laying their posies.

A spokesperson for Wellington RBL said: “Once again the RBL Wellington branch would like to say how proud they are with all that the children do to remember those who gave their lives in the service of their country.

“We take this opportunity to once again thank Wellington Town Council for providing the flowers, Mr Berrisford, Mrs Williams and her classroom assistants for their understanding and patience in allowing the children to do this every month.”
