A TARGET date set by Somerset Council for determining a controversial planning application to build 250 houses in fields outside Wellington has passed without a decision being taken.
Pegasus Group wants to build 250 houses near Middle Green Farm to the south of Wellington’s A38 relief road, beyond the town’s development boundary.
More than 200 people have written to the council to express their opposition and call for the plans to be rejected.
And last month up to 300 people took part in a protest rally and march through the town to demonstrate their objections.
The public demonstration was organised by Protect Wellington, a group formed by local residents to campaign against the proposed development.

It said the scheme would be the first time the A38 development boundary had been breached and members feared it would set a precedent which would eventually see more housing built along the entire southern side of the relief road as far as Chelston, where an Aldi supermarket has recently been approved.
Protect Wellington is planning a further public protest event to be held outside County Hall, Taunton, on a date to be announced.
Somerset Council confirmed that planning officer Karen Wray was ‘in the process of drafting’ her report on the Pegasus application.
A spokesperson told the Wellington Weekly the report would include an officer recommendation for planning permission to be granted or refused.
The spokesperson said: “The recommendation will determine how the application is ultimately decided, either by the planning committee or under officer‑delegated powers, following Somerset Council’s scheme of delegation.
“Please note that the report and recommendation are still subject to internal sign‑off before they can be finalised.
“As such, there is no set date for when the application will be determined.”
Wellington Town Council and Wellington Without Parish Council have both opposed the plan.
