AFTER a near collision at Cades Farm Roundabout, Wellington resident Ellie Veale is warning area locals to take extra care.
On the evening of Tuesday, June 3, Ellie was travelling back from Taunton by bus with her two young sons and her partner when a car pulled out unexpectedly, causing her pram, holding her three-month-old baby, to overturn, and her baby to hit his head on the floor of the bus.
The family visited A&E the same evening and Ellie’s son was admitted to hospital overnight but was later discharged with no signs of permanent injury.
The mum of two attempted to share her shocking experience online the following day but with little success.
She says that neither Wellington Somerset Community Group and Wellington Matters Facebook groups had shared the warning post that she submitted.
Her post says: “I’m sharing this because I’ve noticed multiple drivers tend to speed or fail to indicate properly at that roundabout.
“It’s a worrying pattern that could easily lead to serious accidents, and I really hope it serves as a reminder for everyone to be extra cautious there.
“Thank you to those who kindly helped me and my partner in that difficult moment.
“Let’s all try to be more mindful and use indicators appropriately to help keep everyone safe.”
Ellie added that she is determined to spread more awareness of the danger drivers and pedestrians face at the roundabout which is a key connector between Wellington town centre, Cades Farm Estate, and Chelston Roundabout.
She said: “We were victims of a risk taken by someone else’s carelessness
“One day there may be an accident with children and adults involved.
“It could’ve been a lot worse.”
Both Facebook groups were contacted for comment and Wellington Matters has since shared the post.
