A Wellington woman has been left ‘devastated’ after her rescue dog went missing.
Erica Letten, 50, has appealed to the town for help finding her missing German Shepard Maiko.
The tan and black rescue pup has now been missing for over a week, after disappearing from the Longforth Farm area on Sunday, July 23.
Maiko’s whereabouts has become a cause for worry across the community, with residents taking to social media to share updates and concern.
Susan Horsington said: “I’m so worried about the poor thing.”
Erin Wheeler added: “I’ve got my fingers crossed for this little baby making it home safe.”
But owner Erica has been reassured by repeated sightings. Maiko has been spotted by doorbell cameras in the area where she appeared to be fit and well.
Erica said Maiko needs to return home ‘as soon as possible’ but warned against trying to approach the dog.
She said: “Maiko is a very nervous rescue dog that will get very scared if approached. We need her to feel safe."
