AN argument between two youths over a girl led to the police being called to Rockwell Green to deal with a possession of a knife offence, it was reported at the November meeting of Wellington Town Council.

There had also been a sexual assault in Wellington, two missing people reports, 19 calls to the police about anti-social behaviour and 18  recorded crimes, including the theft of metal railings from the Cades Farm residential estate, reported PC Rob Wood.

There were eight domestic incidents, including arguments, three public order offences, two of harassment, two of assault and one theft. No criminal damage offences had been recorded during October.

Calls to the police during the month totalled 169. Not all of these required police attendance.  Some were for information only or were dealt with over the telephone. Some of the calls, mostly emergencies and at night, were dealt with by Taunton-based officers.

All reports of domestic incidents had to be attended promptly, some resulting in the arrest of one or two parties following an assault or damage to the property.

PC Wood gave a reminder that Wellington Police Station was open to the public from 10am to 4pm on Monday, Tuesday, Friday and Saturday. Not many people called at the police station, only three or four a day.

The police also hold a regular beat surgery at the town council offices in Fore Street every Tuesday between 2pm and 3pm.

Councillors were pleased to receive a written police report. They did not get one at the October council meeting.
