THREE of the Royal Ballet’s best-loved pieces are set to be screened at the Wellesley Cinema in Wellington.

The Dream, Symphonic Variation and Marguerite and Armand by founding company choreographer Frederick Ashton will be screened on Wednesday, June 7, at 7.15pm.

The Dream is a delightful interpretation of Shakespeare’s ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ with Felix Mendelssohn’s witty and famous score the perfect partner for the charming choreography.

Symphonic Variations is a seminal piece in Ashton’s repertoire, the first work he created for the company when it moved to the Covent Garden stage after the Second World War.

Ashton created Marguerite and Armand for Margot Fonteyn and Rudolf Nureyev. A passionate ballet, it tells the story of Marguerite, a Parisian courtesan, who lies on her deathbed. She recalls her tragic love affair with Armand in a series of feverish flashbacks.
