Pupils from St John’s Primary School in Wellington enjoyed a double celebration at their harvest festival at St John’s Church.
Seven new pupil chaplains were commissioned by Rev. Mike Haslam, diocesan chaplaincy development adviser.
The pupil chaplains, who volunteered for the role and had special training, want to try to live by the school’s values - to listen to others and be helpful to them, and find out more about the stories of the Christian faith.
Supported by their own school chaplain, they hope to plan and prepare community events, help in the playground and take part in assemblies.
Previous pupil chaplains were positive about the experience, commenting: "I am more mature" and "my favourite part about being a chaplain is working with the community".
A spokesperson for the school said: "Thank you to all the families who donated food through the harvest festival. This will be distributed to those who need it through local charities."
